I went out for a crappy lunch which left me feeling tired, sick and guilty.  In order to balance the deep fried mess I had a lunch I knew I needed a healthy dinner.  This salad was  the answer….

Watermelon, feta cheese, romain lettuce and avocado with a sprinkling of mint and parsley.  You could also add some red onion and cucumber with salt and pepper.

It was yummy!

Detoxification

069

Apparently when your cells are filled with nasty stuff such as heavy metals and toxins you do not function at your optimal levels and weight loss may be difficult or even impossible.  You body will detox naturally through elimination of those nasty items which caused the clog up to begin with however it does require some help on a regular basis. Here are some detox ideas that apparently help with the situation:

  • Drink warm water with a bit of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in it.  You can add some cinnamon and honey to make it more palatable.
  • Lots of clean water through the day
  • Greens such as chlorella and spirulina  and green leafy vegetables
  • Lymphatic massage
  • Deep breathing
  • Epson salt baths
  • Skin brushing
  • Consuming bentonite clay or activated charcoal
  • Enema’s (water, apple cider vinegar or green coffee)
  • Sweating through hard cardio workouts, sauna or hot yoga

Once the detox process is done flushing out the bad you need to replenish what has been lost by adding in more of the good…

  • Vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, zinc,  iodine, copper
  • Himalayan salt to restore electrolytes
  • Natural sunlight for vitamin D
  • Micro nutrients through juicing vegetables and fruits
  • Fermented foods and/or a probiotic supplement to encourage health gut flora
  • Lots of fibre to push everything through your system quickly and cleanly

These all can be part of a healthy daily routine and over time your body will become more efficient at detoxing naturally.  Here is a detox protocol which has rave reviews it is called the Niacin Flush Detox.

  1. Take 500-1000 vitamin B3 (Niacin quick release) to obtain the “flush” which is your fat cells breaking open and releasing toxins into your system.  You may have to build up to the 500 mg starting at a lower dosage and increasing daily.
  2. Exercise for 30 minutes to get your lymphatic system engaged and blood circulation going so walk, jog, dance or do any sort of movement that will get your heart rate increasing.
  3. Pop into an infrared sauna for a minimum of 40 minutes in order to sweat out the toxins from the skin.  You want to body to release and get rid of all the nasty stuff.
  4. Take a cool shower to rinse off all the sweat and close your pores so that the toxins are not re-absorbed into your system.
  5. Drink a large glass of water with a large dose of activated charcoal in order to bind and flush the toxins from your GI tract.
  6. Replenish the good vitamins, minerals and nutrients back into your systems by consuming fresh veggie juice with some Himalayan salt and drinking water with magnesium and copper or take a good multi-vitamin.

This should ideally be done on an empty stomach and 2-3 times per week as part of a healthy maintenance program.

I am currently doing an intensive detox which will be daily for 7 days then tapering off to 2 times per week thereafter.  I will update my progress and how I feel, so far it does seem to increase gas in the system, not sure if that is a positive side effect or not….

Update: well I passed out and broke my thumb when I tried this… note to self…if you start feeling sick get out of the sauna!!  I had taken 500 ml which caused a severe flush, will back off to 400 next time.

Macadamia Nut Fudge

Here is a very simple healthy recipe to get your sweet tooth satisfied with a healthy snack alternative.  This recipe was adapted from Dr. Mercola’s recipe with the addition of even more healthy superfoods.

Toast 1/2 cup of macadamia nuts in a saucepan until lightly browned.  Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup coconut butter, 1/3 c grass fed butter and 1/3 cup coconut oil.  Stir until melted and combined.  Add 1 large TBSP of raw organic honey, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp white maca powder, 1 tsp mesquite powder, 1 tsp Lucama powder and 1 tsp Himalayan salt and stir until combined.  Pour into small cups or a mould and refrigerate until set.  I also added a few sprinkles of cocoa nibs for extra crunch, flavor and even more health benefits.

Is salad fast food?

When I make a salad like this I wonder why I ever eat anything less than healthy.   If you have cooked chicken in the fridge prewashed greens and a little imagination this is quick and easy and just so much better than anything I can pick up on the way home .

imageTonight’s salad  is spinach, arugula, chicken, dried cranberries, avocado,  walnuts, cucumber, carrots, cheese with Apple cider dressing.   Made extra for tomorrow’s lunch using my cook once eat twice rule …..so good!!

Step in the right direction

Good day today!  Woke up and got 10 minutes in on the vibration machine and morning mantra in.  The day is always best when I am able to fit in the first 20 minutes of my day on me!  Ate well all day, was productive at work, went to gym at lunch, made a good dinner and relaxed with some restorative yoga before bed.  I feel good, my body is shaking off the rest of the cold I have had for the past 2 weeks. I remember Madonna saying your body is like a old car if you don’t use and run it, it will rust out on you.   I feel rusty, I am moving so slowly but with every step I take and every stretch I do I feel the rust starting to loosen and fall off. One day at a time, one step at a time I am moving in the right direction.

Dinner tonight was slow roasted free range pork belly with carmelized onion, saurkaut and roasted beets, squash and kale.  Yummy, filling and nourishing ❤️

I am making time for me and I love myself 😘

Stocking up on nourishing foods

IMG_0225Today I cranked up some good music and did some stress relieving cooking.  Nothing nourishes the soul more than crafting together a healthy tasty combination of ingredients to ensure I am staying on the right path.  I made some crunchy granola, superfood chocolate focusing on some main healthy ingredients.

Crunchy Granola

IMG_0219IMG_0218

There is no reason to buy sugary low quality granola when it is quick and easy to make your own homemade version.  Here is a recipe I use as a general guideline depending on what in in the house at the time I make a batch:

Whole oats (gluten free and organic)

Coconut (unsweetened shredded or flaked)

mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans)

mixed seeds (hemp, flax, chia, sunflower, pumpkin)

dried fruit (dates, raisins, cranberries, apricots)

spices (cinnamon, ginger, maca powder, reishi mushroom, turmeric)

Sweetener (maple syrup, agave, honey)

Oil (olive oil, coconut oil, ghee, avocado oil)

Mix everything together in a big bowl (except the fruit), turn out onto a large cookie sheet and bake in a 325 oven for about 30 minutes stirring often.  Turn off oven and let sit another 30 minutes then add the fruit.  Mix well and store in a container in the fridge.  This is great over yogurt and fruit or used as a topping for a fruit crisp.

Antioxidant Chocolate

IMG_0223

There is nothing better than my homemade chocolate, it gives you that sweet bite that I crave with the rich satisfying qualities that chocolate contains.  Here is the basic recipe I follow

Coconut oil

dark cocoa powder

honey (agave, coconut sugar or xylitol)

cinnamon, turmeric, maca powder, reishi mushroom powder

Heat the ingredients and mix until blended.  Pour over your favorite goodies such as:

Nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, coconut)

dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, dates, apricots)

seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, hemp)

Sandwich with peanut butter or coconut cream

Lay flat on a cookie tray, sprinkle with a touch of sea salt and place until fridge until cool.  Break into chunks and store in fridge.

I stive everyday to move my life in the right direction

I have learned long ago that to strive for perfection is to set yourself up for failure.  With an all or nothing personality, once perfection is off the table everything else slides away.  I know what it takes to be healthy and happy.  I will set goals for myself to try and get there.  Here are the ways that I will move my life in the right direction….

Wake up early

Use the time in the morning for reflection, meditation, stretching, moving, breathing and raising my vibration.

Sip on lemon water, teas, green coffee and water

Eat a healthy anti-inflammatory diet 90% of the time

Move, walk in nature, swim, dance, stretch and train with weights

Spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones

Spend quality time with myself

Rest

Pamper and treat myself

Always be adventurous and curious

Passion, Patience and Practice

Life is too long to be sick, unhealthy and bored, life is too short not to be enjoyed to the fullest.  Why is it sometimes when we get caught up in the day to day activities we forget to nurture the greatest asset we have,  ourselves?  This blog is about nurturing the mind, body and spirit.  Slowing down and focusing on my state of health, health of my body, health of my soul.  It is about feeding myself with what I need to thrive and feel good and letting go of the stress the negative and the menial non essential time wasting activities that pull my away from my destination rather than towards it.  I value health, I value my family, I value my friends and above all I value myself.  This journey is my personal journey to learning to love myself, learning to nourish myself and learning to make the most of this precious time we have on planet earth.
